FAQ

Q: Where did Food Book Fair come from?

A: Food Book Fair was the brainchild of founder Elizabeth Thacker Jones, inspired by her time in New York University's Food Studies program.

Q: Is Food Book Fair only about books?

A: Food Book Fair is about books and beyond. We get down with cookbooks, of course, but we also dig food memoirs, political writing about food, food magazines (foodieodicals in our parlance: food + periodical), television, film, comics. If it's great, gutsy independent food media, we're into it.

Q: Who should attend Food Book Fair?

A: Food Book Fair is for everyone. Our annual festival and events around the calendar year draw many of our friends and peers from the restaurant industry and larger food world, plus the media and publishing space; but we also welcome lay food enthusiasts, and anyone with an interest in eating, drinking, thinking and discussion or looking to build upon their interest.

Q: I have a/n [event/sponsorship/book signing/other] idea for the Fair!

A: We love pitches, and we love exploring potential partnerships or collaborations. Send us a note at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with "PROPOSAL" in the subject line with a brief description of what you're dreaming or scheming.

Q: Will you consider my book for the pop-up bookstore or a Greenmarket signing?

A: We work in tandem with Kitchen Arts & Letters to put together our festival pop-up shop, and we partner with the folks at GrowNYC/Greenmarket to curate our list of seasonal signings. Q: Food and books — this sounds like a dream. Are there any job or volunteer opportunities with Team FBF?

A: We're a lean operation: Most of the year, we run as a company of two, but we look forward to staffing up with other cool food book people in the run up to Food Book Fair each spring. Might that be you? At this time we are looking for limited production assistance in the weeks leading up to the Fair, and volunteers during the event.
